John Gette was born about 1850 and married Teresa Farhare in Russia. We know that about 1913, Andrew. and his brother, Ignatz were living in the village of Semenovka. We know there were other brothers and sisters, but the names have been lost--either remaining in Russia, returning to Germany or going to other countries.
Andrew was born on July 1, 1876, and married Elizabeth Koenig about 1890. They had six children while still living in Russia including Anne, Catherine, Francis, John, Barbara and Elizabeth.
During the period of the Famine in Russia (1920-1922) when 250,000-300,000 starved to death, Anne, Catherine and Francis died. A younger sister recalls how they shared their meager portions with the youngest.
Andrew Gette and his younger brother, Ignatz, immigrated to the United States in the early 1900's and began farming near Munich, North Dakota. The plan was for Andrew to get settled and send for the rest of his family (Ignatz was not yet married).
Over the course of time, Andrew sent money to his wife for the tickets...but the money never made it to her. Finally, he sent the tickets themselves and they left Russia and sailed across the Atlantic Ocean.
On August 10, 1924, Andrew's wife, Elizabeth, and their three remaining children--John, Barbara and Elizabeth--sailed on August 10, 1924, on the ship Estonia to the United States to join Andrew in North Dakota.
On July 11, 1925, Andrew and Elizabeth Gette had their first child born as an American citizen, Joseph Eugene Gette. Shortly after his birth, Elizabeth died in Munich, North Dakota.
Andrew married Catherine Keehn in Munich, North Dakota, on July 6, 1930 and they had two children: Rosemary and Edward.
Ignatz Gette was born February 6, 1886, in Russia. He married Elizabeth Boose in North Dakota and they had ten children including: Malior Gette, Marie Gette, Joseph Gette, Elizabeth Gette, Alvina Gette, Leo Gette, Donald Gette, William Gette, Henry Gette and Leona Gette.
